Your Passion Is Your Calling

FeaturedYour Passion Is Your Calling

Take a pause and think of what you’re good at. Now think of how you can incorporate that into your daily life. Now this passion does not have to be a part of your job, it can be something like a hobby. But whatever it is let it call you, and answer it.

I previously wrote about distractions, and how it limits us from our actions, and this is pretty much like your passion trying to call you, but you keep declining the call, so it leaves you a message, and you still don’t return its call. Don’t allow time to pass you by so much that you’re missing out. Not necessarily on opportunities, but more so on ¬†life. LIVE a little ūüėõ

Tap in to what you’re good at, because it is not just about you, but instead the bigger picture. INFLUENCE! I was thinking the other day about how much I enjoy making an impact on people. Helping them, encouraging them, making them laugh, think, and feel good overall. This is something I’m good at. I’ve always been the light of a dark day, and this has always been a natural thing, but as I become older, I’m learning that not everyone enjoy this LOL. Making people feel good draws them closer to you because it is warm, non-judgmental bonding type of vibe, and you can’t get that everywhere. However, there are people who are not use to that type of treatment, so it makes them feel a little uncomfortable when you try to LIGHTen them up. That use to bother me, that they were bothered with my positivity, but then I realized that many people are not use to that. Some people thrive when negativity strikes, and that has nothing to do with you. But don’t allow that to distract you, keep driving and digging to your calling.¬†

Don’t allow your passion to become dampened because of what, or who is around you. This can be tricky, and damn right discouraging, but instead allow your passion to call you more, put that ringer on blast! When I say tap into your passion, I’m thinking intensely so, making it a part of your life, period! We all have all daily tasks and habits, but imagine how greater it is to include your passion into it. I bet you’d have a better day, or make someone else’s day better. If you like singing, then sing! any chance you get, and feel good about doing it too. Tap in to it more, by making time for it, because you want to. It begins with your mindset, and wanting to do something is better than having to do it. Don’t turn your passion into a chore. We already have enough going on as humans, so don’t make your passion a burden. Even if you become tied up with your responsibilities, make some type of effort to tap in. For example, I’ll carry a journal around so I can write, or sometimes in my phone. Doing this makes room for me to still enjoy making others feel good, while making myself feel good in the process. You want your passion to create balance to better serve you and others around you. It is your world.¬†

To be good at anything, you must practice it, so you can master it!

Super Slow-motion Strength-training?

FeaturedSuper Slow-motion Strength-training?

Sounds interesting huh? and it is!!!

Think about how you’re currently working out, versus how it would be if you slowed yourself down when you did it. Do you think you’ll feel a difference? Well you would, and I highly suggest doing so, even if it is just added to your current fitness routine. I do it twice a week, and still do other activities, such as yoga, hiking, and dancing. The super slow-motion strength-training is not to replace those activities (if you don’t want it to), but it is known to be the most effective way of exercising. All you need is 20 minutes!¬†

I’ve been a personal trainer at The Perfect Workout for about 2 months and I absolutely love it! I get to train people who are serious about their health and fitness goals, and is as passionate about the slow-motion method as I am. Working out is about making it a part of your life, and making an investment towards yourself, so why not do it safely and effectively? I definitely recommend this program for anyone who wants a high-intense workout, and quickly. For more information visit:

https://www.theperfectworkout.com/

Also, if you choose not to sign up don’t worry, you can still learn about the exercise by doing a Learning Session (free of charge if you mention me, “Monique Houston, trainer in California, sent me”) and you can apply the method on your own (even though no exercise is as challenging and beneficial as when you train with someone).¬†

I am just passionate about what I do, and want to share this method with everyone. So check out the website, see if one of the locations are near you :).

Don’t be afraid to try something different. Sometimes switching up, or adding something new will help make more changes to your goals!

Happy 1 Year Anniversary To My Locs!

FeaturedHappy 1 Year Anniversary To My Locs!

I cannot begin to express how grateful I am for my lil babies. I love all 76 of them (I think there’s 76) lol. I plan on counting them again, but anyways….My year was on July 11th. I remember it so clearly too! I’ve always wanted to loc my hair, but I wasn’t too sure on when, and of course you want to make sure you are ready. And I was that day. It was a sudden urge for me to do it and I just went for it!

Look at the progress (happy tears)

I must admit the length now is too much lol. I’ve always switched my hairstyles, but most of my favorite and convenient styles were worn short, so this is interesting yet I am happy to try something different. I don’t look forward to going back either, like I’ve said before I like my fro, but I love my locs. The convenience of it alone wins, because I can’t stand having to do my hair every day, especially as a personal trainer. Having a busy schedule works wonders when you’re not all up in your head all the time, and wash day is a breeze!

I still do not use a lot of product, and I wash once or twice a week, and not re-twisting each time either. To be honest, you don’t need to re twist on a schedule, just when you feel you really need it. On average, I probably re-twist every other month. I like the new growth, but when it’s time, you’ll now. You just have to listen to your hair. I still use the VO5 shampoo (clarifying shampoo) and conditioner. I like the VO5 conditioner because it is not thick, and more on the watery side. Now always keep in mind that a journey, is just that, and most importantly it is YOURS, so always do what works for you.

It’s nice to get advice, and ideas from others, but when you figure out something for you, it may or may not work for others. That’s okay, keep embracing your journey and continue to learn. This can go for anything! The focus though is on you, you’ll know what works, and you’ll know what you deserve. A journey for me, is actually about listening to yourself more, and not being moved by distractions or popularity. It’s about finding the pieces to a puzzle, putting them together, and making something beautiful from it….LIFE!

Have fun with it, and live your life happily!

Til next time,

Why I Enjoy Nature Walks…

Why I Enjoy Nature Walks…

Besides visualizing the good scenery of the environment, nature walks are beneficial in so many different ways. You get the blood flowing and pumping, and if you’re lucky, you also get to enjoy the weather.

Here in Sacramento, Ca, the weather is fairly perfect, not too hot and not too cold, most days. Most mornings to early afternoons are best for walking, just about anywhere. There are a ton of parks, and now that I have a dog I have more than enough reasons to explore!

#1 Nature Walks Are Relaxing

Much like meditation to me, yet you’re also getting in a little workout too, nature walks can be clarifying to the mind. If you are having a stressful day, go for a walk, better yet a nature walk. Make sure to do some research on the place of course, and always have someone with you. You don’t need to be alone in order to channel within.

Glenn Hall park is a favorite of mine, and the dog’s (see Marley below lol). You’ll never become bored of this place. There is a community center, ¬†children’s park, and a baseball field. There’s plenty of room and activities for everybody. ¬†You don’t have to worry about being in the way.

#2 Nature Walks Help You Figure Things Out

Different tracks lead you to different areas. Make sure to be careful and not hike alone, trust me you don’t want to get lost. Just go with a friend, a mate, or a neighbor and enjoy the silence. There is such joy in spending time with others who you can enjoy the silence with. Whenever there’s silence, use this as an opportunity to let go of your worries. You’ll think of something, but there’s something about the silence that’ll bring assurance to you. Use this opportunity to think POSITIVELY! Trust me, I’ve had so many stressful days and nights over work, school, LIFE, period, and sitting and hoping doesn’t do anything.

Be productive on your nature walk and really think deeply about whatever it is, and do so with a smile. Nature walking will brighten up your mood, and the blood flow will warm up your mind, something like coffee or tea. Treat yourself and bring some Jamba Juice with you ;).You need a visit to see mother nature.  She is very nurturing and inspiring, and we can all learn some things about mother nature and its course.

#3 Nature Walks Will Bring Out The Nice In You

Because it is so relaxing, whenever you see a fellow walker (and not from The Walking Dead) you say hi, hello, or good morning, they’ll do the same, and vice versa. I tell ya, the nicest people take walks. When have you ever seen a grumpy nature walker? Exactly! In a previous post, I mentioned how you have to change your environment if you’re trying to change yourself. Going to a park, or anywhere for a walk can sound like a small change, but try doing this on a regular. You will experience a change for sure. Just go for it.

I think it has something to do with the environment and the people. Whenever I see someone, they’re smiling. People are lighter and cheerful, even if they’re warning you about something. It’s just refreshing to see people not on their phones and smiling. Ain’t it crazy how it is rare these days, you’re probably on the phone now! lol jkjk.

#4 Nature Walks Allows Excuses For¬†EATING…Good and Bonding!

After you had an amazing hike, treat yourself to a yummy breakfast. This is the light breakfast I had after one of my adventures. This Avocado Toast breakfast from BJs was so good! A must try for sure! The avocado spread has some jalapeno in it, but it’s not spicy, has flavor though :). Another place I like to go to sometimes is IHop or Dennys. Most times I’ll be good and just make a healthy green smoothie, or a light breakfast. Whatever the case is, this is an opportunity to bond more with the people you hiked with and what better way right?

So what are your top benefits for going on nature walks?

Healthy Living is a Journey

Healthy Living is a Journey

You will have your ups and downs, but it will get easier…

Starting your healthy journey does not have to be difficult. It can be as easy as you want it to be. What has helped me the most is taking baby steps. I find that when you start out small, it helps encourage you to do more.

I started in 2009, and it was the most difficult, yet rewarding goal I started for myself, well besides completing school! However, I was so hard on myself because of my high expectations. My first mistake was not being prepared. I wasn’t ready mentally, physically, and emotionally, so this led to more binge eating and drinking.

This leads us to the first step of healthy living: Invite yourself to different environments!

This is one the most important steps, I think, because it is a part of the learning process. You have to be around different people, so you can learn different habits. For instance:

  • Go to a gym, join a group session
  • Go for a walk at the park
  • Try something healthy at a new restaurant
  • Go to a different grocery store

Going to the gym motivated me the most. Some people become discouraged, but let that discourage turn into motivation. Remember everyone has their own goals, and what better place to encourage each other. Also, remember that the negative feeling you’re experiencing is temporary, so don’t beat yourself up, just get through the process.

When you’re in a different setting, you begin to open your mind to what’s around it. This includes the people and the scenery. You want to change your mindset while going through this journey, because having the same mindset will obviously lead to backtracking, and you don’t want to go that route.

Instead, you want to elminate those distractions, and what better way to distract yourself while¬†being productive at the same time. In other words, inviting yourself to different environments will make you think more about your goals, than you’re comfort.

*Always remember that any change requires discomfort.

Preparation = Success

When you’re prepared, you make it easy for yourself to accomplish just about anything. This is because you begin¬†setting your mind on the goal, in which allows you¬†to¬†focus on its solutions. Going back to the first step, you come across more solutions when you learn from different environments.

  • Take notes! (Dont underestimate the power of taking notes. This has helped me A LOT!).

You want to start your goal small, in the end it will be even greater, trust me. For example, work on losing your first 5 pounds. I think starting in the beginning of the week is ideal to keep better track.

  • Be realistic (Stop being mean to yourself, your goal is YOURS, not his, or hers…).

Don’t be that person who compares your body to the next, we need to get that through our heads that we are not the same, nor are we meant to be. There will always be something we don’t like, but I’m sure there are more things you do like, so let’s focus on that. When you decide to begin your healthy living journey, take note that this is to better your health, not necessarily to “fix your body”.

The body is our temple, and we should cherish it, not fight it. Being on this journey involves being healthy all over, and again this starts with your mind, so you have to learn to accept what is, and work with it. The changes will come, but to truly love yourself, you have to accept yourself for who you are, and that is deeper than your outter beauty. True self-love starts from within.

So, there you have it! an introduction to healthy living. I will defintely add more tips and tricks that has helped me along the way, but I find these tips to be the most important for getting started.

Let me know if you have any questions, I really want to help anyone who is looking to lose weight, or to just live a healthier lifestyle.

Take care, and lets get our mojo back together!
