Why The Perfect Workout Is Perfect For You…

Why The Perfect Workout Is Perfect For You…

If you are becoming more serious about investing into your health and physical being, joining a health club can really help you get started, and stay on track.

At The Perfect Workout, we care about your goals as much as you do, if not more! We understand how challenging it is working out sometimes, we get it, it is not fun, and it is not suppose to be. Instead, we focus on the positives, creating and reaching personal goals, while also being there to support you 100%. You don’t need to be in the studio to talk to us, you can reach out any time and we’ll be there. We know how badly you want to reach your goals, so your time if very valuable to us.

This brings up one of the reasons why The Perfect Workout is perfect. We value your time. Our 20 minute training session is for targeting specific muscle groups while also getting in some cardio. I like to call this the 2 in 1. Unlike other gyms, our private studios are in a clinical setting giving us the space to train one on one without distractions. We are there to help you focus while making sure you’re working out properly.

Working out properly will get you closer to your goals. And this is another reason why we’re perfect. All of the personal trainers were trained to pay special attention to your form, so we can help you correct it. This allows you to strengthen the muscle without the help of other body parts.

Preventing injuries is at a higher rate because of our super slow technique, and this makes us perfect, because of its safety. You wouldn’t have to worry about high impact workouts, because the machines help intensify the workouts using heavy weights with a low impact method. Going slow allows the muscle to stimulate more effectively, because you’re fighting the momentum at a heavy weight. Imagine powering through the weight using momentum, and not paying attention to your form. This can result in a disaster.

We strive on perfection by implementing our core values: Enlightened Exercise, Teamwork, Candor, Integrity, and Customer Service. We find each and one of these extremely important, and take much pride on achieving these with every single one of our clients.

Additionally, we are personal, so you have support which is one of the most important things to have while making a life change, or simply living an active lifestyle. If you want more information about our program, please go to www.ThePerfectWorkout.com. We also launched a nutrition program, and you don’t have to be a client already to join, or to get more information.

If interested, go to our website, locate a trainer near you and ask them about the program, or the nutrition program, and we’ll do our part to assist you from there.

Mention me (Monique Houston, trainer in California) for a Free Training Session! Maybe you’ll join our family, or maybe you know someone who will.

Take care!

Super Slow-motion Strength-training?

Super Slow-motion Strength-training?

Sounds interesting huh? and it is!!!

Think about how you’re currently working out, versus how it would be if you slowed yourself down when you did it. Do you think you’ll feel a difference? Well you would, and I highly suggest doing so, even if it is just added to your current fitness routine. I do it twice a week, and still do other activities, such as yoga, hiking, and dancing. The super slow-motion strength-training is not to replace those activities (if you don’t want it to), but it is known to be the most effective way of exercising. All you need is 20 minutes!

I’ve been a personal trainer at The Perfect Workout for about 2 months and I absolutely love it! I get to train people who are serious about their health and fitness goals, and is as passionate about the slow-motion method as I am. Working out is about making it a part of your life, and making an investment towards yourself, so why not do it safely and effectively? I definitely recommend this program for anyone who wants a high-intense workout, and quickly. For more information visit:

Also, if you choose not to sign up don’t worry, you can still learn about the exercise by doing a Learning Session (free of charge if you mention me, “Monique Houston, trainer in California, sent me”) and you can apply the method on your own (even though no exercise is as challenging and beneficial as when you train with someone).

I am just passionate about what I do, and want to share this method with everyone. So check out the website, see if one of the locations are near you :).

Don’t be afraid to try something different. Sometimes switching up, or adding something new will help make more changes to your goals!

Why I Enjoy Nature Walks…

Why I Enjoy Nature Walks…

Besides visualizing the good scenery of the environment, nature walks are beneficial in so many different ways. You get the blood flowing and pumping, and if you’re lucky, you also get to enjoy the weather.

Here in Sacramento, Ca, the weather is fairly perfect, not too hot and not too cold, most days. Most mornings to early afternoons are best for walking, just about anywhere. There are a ton of parks, and now that I have a dog I have more than enough reasons to explore!

#1 Nature Walks Are Relaxing

Much like meditation to me, yet you’re also getting in a little workout too, nature walks can be clarifying to the mind. If you are having a stressful day, go for a walk, better yet a nature walk. Make sure to do some research on the place of course, and always have someone with you. You don’t need to be alone in order to channel within.

Glenn Hall park is a favorite of mine, and the dog’s (see Marley below lol). You’ll never become bored of this place. There is a community center,  children’s park, and a baseball field. There’s plenty of room and activities for everybody.  You don’t have to worry about being in the way.

#2 Nature Walks Help You Figure Things Out

Different tracks lead you to different areas. Make sure to be careful and not hike alone, trust me you don’t want to get lost. Just go with a friend, a mate, or a neighbor and enjoy the silence. There is such joy in spending time with others who you can enjoy the silence with. Whenever there’s silence, use this as an opportunity to let go of your worries. You’ll think of something, but there’s something about the silence that’ll bring assurance to you. Use this opportunity to think POSITIVELY! Trust me, I’ve had so many stressful days and nights over work, school, LIFE, period, and sitting and hoping doesn’t do anything.

Be productive on your nature walk and really think deeply about whatever it is, and do so with a smile. Nature walking will brighten up your mood, and the blood flow will warm up your mind, something like coffee or tea. Treat yourself and bring some Jamba Juice with you ;).You need a visit to see mother nature.  She is very nurturing and inspiring, and we can all learn some things about mother nature and its course.

#3 Nature Walks Will Bring Out The Nice In You

Because it is so relaxing, whenever you see a fellow walker (and not from The Walking Dead) you say hi, hello, or good morning, they’ll do the same, and vice versa. I tell ya, the nicest people take walks. When have you ever seen a grumpy nature walker? Exactly! In a previous post, I mentioned how you have to change your environment if you’re trying to change yourself. Going to a park, or anywhere for a walk can sound like a small change, but try doing this on a regular. You will experience a change for sure. Just go for it.

I think it has something to do with the environment and the people. Whenever I see someone, they’re smiling. People are lighter and cheerful, even if they’re warning you about something. It’s just refreshing to see people not on their phones and smiling. Ain’t it crazy how it is rare these days, you’re probably on the phone now! lol jkjk.

#4 Nature Walks Allows Excuses For EATING…Good and Bonding!

After you had an amazing hike, treat yourself to a yummy breakfast. This is the light breakfast I had after one of my adventures. This Avocado Toast breakfast from BJs was so good! A must try for sure! The avocado spread has some jalapeno in it, but it’s not spicy, has flavor though :). Another place I like to go to sometimes is IHop or Dennys. Most times I’ll be good and just make a healthy green smoothie, or a light breakfast. Whatever the case is, this is an opportunity to bond more with the people you hiked with and what better way right?

So what are your top benefits for going on nature walks?

M0j0 🙂

P.S always be aware of the spider webs ^_^

Find a Creative Outlet!

I want you to understand the importance of being creative…

What is your hobby? Or better yet, what is your escape? This can go for anything. It’s an adventure for when you’re thinking, sad, mad, or glad. Or what do you that is unique, or pretty much a talent you cherish very much? If you didn’t have an answer to any of these questions, then you need to find a creative outlet!

Your creative outlet doesn’t necessarily need to involve art, such as painting, or drawing. It can actually involve anything. To state it simply, I like to look at it as something that gets you to think and escape. For me, it’s writing, reading, cooking, and working out. My creative outlets are something that I do on a regular, and I find it very rewarding. I wanted to write about this, because I’ve noticed how there are some people who don’t have a creative outlet, and I believe it is important.

Your creative outlet is your stamp. Like your secret message to the world. It’s what you take as an inspiration and flip it to your own making. It’s a beautiful thing and should always be cherished. I find my inspiration from everything and everyone, even when it comes from a negative place. What helps me, and can help others, is to make the experience into a positive one. For instance, some artist may get their inspiration from their childhood, and if it was an unpleasant experience, they somehow create a masterpiece, and then share it to the world.

Your Hobby, or Creative Outlet is What You Are Passionate About

This is what we need, and this is how each and one of us can evolve. Some of my inspiration comes from music, celebrities, authors, the list can go on. But what I really take from them is how they overcame adversity. And a lot of this had to do with their creation. Their outlet was the masterpiece from their shortcomings, and we can all learn from this. There’s no one specifically, but when you think about it we all have something in common, we go through ups and downs like everyone else, but we deserve to be rewarded right?

A lot of us become stuck in a routine. We work, have kids, have pets, run errands, pay bills, and barely have time on the weekend. But where do we fit in our personal “me time”? I find it unfair in a way, because we work so hard, but not work on something that is so endearing, or personal to us. I find it rewarding when you do, and it feels good to share it with others, as I’m sure they feel good seeing the masterpiece. So think to yourself and think of creating your outlet. We each have so much power within ourselves, but may not have the time, and why not?

Your creative outlet is just as important as anything else, so why put it on pause. Let’s say you like to read, try waking up earlier than usual, or try reading just before bed. Whatever the outlet is, I think it is important to find a way, and continue to work on it. Either way, you have the power to make arrangements to better your situation, that’s if you really want to…right?

The reason why I’m so passionate about this is because there are some people who are too busy living under a rock, and that’s not the way to live. By this, I’m not only observing some people not actively accomplishing their goals, but also the way they think. They are becoming more and more closed in, and we need to open them up. When you involve yourself with a creative outlet, that’s what it’ll do! It’ll help you open your mind to a whole new horizon. You find out more about yourself that you haven’t before. So give it a try! Find a hobby that interest you and see how you feel. The more you do it the better, and you’ll become a master of your own creative outlet.

Healthy Living is a Journey

Healthy Living is a Journey

You will have your ups and downs, but it will get easier…

Starting your healthy journey does not have to be difficult. It can be as easy as you want it to be. What has helped me the most is taking baby steps. I find that when you start out small, it helps encourage you to do more.

I started in 2009, and it was the most difficult, yet rewarding goal I started for myself, well besides completing school! However, I was so hard on myself because of my high expectations. My first mistake was not being prepared. I wasn’t ready mentally, physically, and emotionally, so this led to more binge eating and drinking.

This leads us to the first step of healthy living: Invite yourself to different environments!

This is one the most important steps, I think, because it is a part of the learning process. You have to be around different people, so you can learn different habits. For instance:

  • Go to a gym, join a group session
  • Go for a walk at the park
  • Try something healthy at a new restaurant
  • Go to a different grocery store

Going to the gym motivated me the most. Some people become discouraged, but let that discourage turn into motivation. Remember everyone has their own goals, and what better place to encourage each other. Also, remember that the negative feeling you’re experiencing is temporary, so don’t beat yourself up, just get through the process.

When you’re in a different setting, you begin to open your mind to what’s around it. This includes the people and the scenery. You want to change your mindset while going through this journey, because having the same mindset will obviously lead to backtracking, and you don’t want to go that route.

Instead, you want to elminate those distractions, and what better way to distract yourself while being productive at the same time. In other words, inviting yourself to different environments will make you think more about your goals, than you’re comfort.

*Always remember that any change requires discomfort.

Preparation = Success

When you’re prepared, you make it easy for yourself to accomplish just about anything. This is because you begin setting your mind on the goal, in which allows you to focus on its solutions. Going back to the first step, you come across more solutions when you learn from different environments.

  • Take notes! (Dont underestimate the power of taking notes. This has helped me A LOT!).

You want to start your goal small, in the end it will be even greater, trust me. For example, work on losing your first 5 pounds. I think starting in the beginning of the week is ideal to keep better track.

  • Be realistic (Stop being mean to yourself, your goal is YOURS, not his, or hers…).

Don’t be that person who compares your body to the next, we need to get that through our heads that we are not the same, nor are we meant to be. There will always be something we don’t like, but I’m sure there are more things you do like, so let’s focus on that. When you decide to begin your healthy living journey, take note that this is to better your health, not necessarily to “fix your body”.

The body is our temple, and we should cherish it, not fight it. Being on this journey involves being healthy all over, and again this starts with your mind, so you have to learn to accept what is, and work with it. The changes will come, but to truly love yourself, you have to accept yourself for who you are, and that is deeper than your outter beauty. True self-love starts from within.

So, there you have it! an introduction to healthy living. I will defintely add more tips and tricks that has helped me along the way, but I find these tips to be the most important for getting started.

Let me know if you have any questions, I really want to help anyone who is looking to lose weight, or to just live a healthier lifestyle.

Take care, and lets get our mojo back together!

Instead of Feeding Your Body, Nourish Your Body

Taking care of yourself is about breaking bad habits and creating healthier ones…

I’ve always been an active person, but it was my eating habits that I struggled the most with; I’m a true foodie at heart. We have to understand that our health and wellness is a journey, and it is okay to not be at 100% all the time. I think we stress out by constantly restricting ourselves. It’s like a punishment. Instead, we have to look at it as a reward, and remember that taking care of yourself is a reward. After dealing with a death in the family, and also going through relationship issues, I gained weight. I was drinking and eating out more than usual. These “in the moment” mishaps led to a spiral effect, and I needed to find an exit.

I had to make a change, and realized this by seeing a psychologist. The assurance I got from her made me feel that I deserved to live healthy, and going out all the time, and pleasing others was killing me. I wasn’t taking care of ME. She said I was too young to feel miserable, and she was right. In fact, no one should feel miserable. It is not a good feeling. I began my health and wellness journey late in 2009, and it really took off in the middle of 2010. However, along with these changes included my escape plan from the ex (please read previous blog for more info.). You must know that any major change in your life will involve sacrifices, but to be successful you have to change all aspects of your life.

This is important because you want to avoid going backwards, and of course eliminate as many triggers as possible. This is why many of us have trouble with weight loss. We have to be ready, and being prepared will help you. You want to pay attention on nourishing your body. Kind of like gardening, you wouldn’t give your plants junk right? Too many of us are concerned with feeding the belly. In most cases, we have an image in our mind, and most of the time it will be something unhealthy. When you eat certain things for so long, our bodies become accustomed to it, and the brain becomes programmed to thinking its good; it may taste good, but is it good for you? Now this isn’t to say you have to cut those items out completely, but to do so in moderation. I must say, however, that once you open your options, you will cut most, if not all of those unhealthy foods. Trying new foods can include what you already like. For example, you can make healthier tacos, and substitute the sour cream with plain Greek yogurt (so good!).

I always say start little so don’t overwhelm yourself with this. You don’t want to put so much pressure on yourself and end up eating twice as bad than before. Take your time. As mentioned before, preparation is key. Think about your overall goal, and then split it up. Sometimes the right time will come to you, and you’ll know what to do. A friend and I went to the mall to go shopping, and while trying on clothes, I saw that roll behind my back. I almost cried… It was a lot for me considering I never had rolls before. Now this had nothing to do with anyone else, and still doesn’t, but I wasn’t use to it. Because I didn’t have the proper support, I had to learn to depend on myself, and of course Google was always there. I’m sure you hear this a lot, but Google is your friend! I came across a lot of different information, and combined the information to make it my own. This is another important step. Research and figure out what works for you, and stick with it. I’ve tried a lot of different diets, but dieting is a temporary fix. In order to be successful, you have to make it a part of your life.

*So try this* eliminate something unhealthy for this week, and substitute it for something healthier. For example, Instead of eating sandwiches, eat a salad. If you need carbs, add a little bit of croutons. Additionally, pay attention to your water intake. There are so many of us not drinking enough water. Additionally, try cutting back on fast food. You’ll be amazed on how much weight you’ll lose by doing this.

Remember to start out small. Your journey will blossom as long as you take it slow, while trying new things. Let the change begin!

I will continue to share my personal experiences, and hope to help someone out there.

Lets take back our Mojo!

Have Fun With IT!

Have Fun With IT!

Continuing where we left off on “Getting Out Of Your Comfort Zone”, you must have fun with it….

This means enjoying the process of the change. You recognize the struggle, EASY! we all know how to do that, but pay closer attention to the prize. What has helped me tremendously is finding a hobby/hobbies. If you’re anything like me, you like to stay busy. I know myself well enough that if I don’t do enough, I can’t relax at the end of the day. You get that feeling of guilt for not doing enough (or at least feeling like it). No matter what we’re doing, it is how we FEEL that matters! And if you’re not having fun then what’s the point right.

Now, this does not mean you have to “have fun” all day, every day, but at least try to create some type of fulfillment. This makes all the difference, trust me. For instance, if you’re into fitness, try a workout you haven’t done before. For example, I’m usually into cardio (running & the great ol’ stairmaster), but recently I’ve been punching and kicking the hell out of this Everlast punching bag, and its AMAZING!

Punching bag
You have to try this!

This relates to me getting out of my comfort zone, because it is something new to add to my fitness journey. Now YOU do it, do something different and see how liberating you feel. If you keep practicing this, you will be more open to trying new things, which results in getting our of your comfort zone. Sometimes you have to learn to do these things on your own, especially if you have little to no support. We will continue this in the next blog, but til then I hope I gave you something to think about, have an epic day!
